Google+ Hangout for Podcast #47
http://andyroberts.me/podcast/google-hangout-for-podcast-47
For this week’s podcast I wanted to experiment with using Google+ , a new(ish) social networking site which has a feature they call “hangout” for bringing groups of people together by video link. It’s kind of like a group video call with a text chat, so superficially not that disimilar really to the ustream and livestream systems that I’ve been using for the weekly Tuesday night broadcasts up until about April this year. Do you need a Google+ invitation? Click here The Google+ service as a whole is getting a lot of attention even though it only launched to the public this month, and even though the circles metaphor can be a bit cumbersome, there’s a tendency towards fuller conversations and better discovery that makes it interesting for musicians, I think. But all that could change as the new platform develops, we’ll have to see. What intrigues me though, is the way that Google is integrating many of their popular services together, and Google of course is behind youTube. I’ve been waiting for youTube “Live” to open up but for the time being that seems to be open only to a few international TV stations. There is some confusing talk about youTube live being available on Google+ hangouts but thsi always turns out to be about taking the existing youTube live streams and relaying them into a Hangout, rather than using the Hangout to generate a new livestream that can be relayed out into youTube live, and saved as youTube videos in a channel, which the direction I’m probably looking for. Google+ Hangout So we planned to try out the ‘Hangout’ feature within Google+, this Sunday afternoon just gone at 3.00pm, and the result has been incorporated into this Andy Roberts podcast episode #47. Google+ Hanging out If you wanted to take part in future Google+ events with me, or just listen in as it happens, then you would need to activate a Google+ Profile if you don’t already have one, and add me to a circle. Again, if you need a Google+ invitation you can get one here Sunday Afternoons, 3.00pm Oh yes, and the other thing that’s changed is that we’ve moved to Sunday afternoons for the regular weekly spot, at 3.00pm UK time, which is currently GMT+1 with daylight saving. That’s 10pm in Beijing. The Sunday afternoon 3.00pm time slot will continue throughout the month of August.

Andy Roberts Music Podcast Episode 26
http://andyroberts.me/andy-roberts-music/andy-roberts-music-podcast-episode-26
Podcast Episode 26 Episode 26 is the last Andy Roberts music podcast for the year 2010. So since the podcasts began back in in July 2010, half a year has passed and just over one quarter of the expected 99 episodes have been published with around 125 songs performed making almost thirteen hours of acoustic guitar music and songs available here on the andyroberts.me website. This time next year, the project should have begun the final quarter. Right at the end of the podcast, I mentioned the January Songwriters Circle Challenge so here’s the link for that: http://songwriterscircle.co.uk Back to Episode 26 and the shownotes: Links, play, download

Around the World with Havering Folk Club
http://andyrobertsmusic.blogspot.com/2009/04/around-world-with-havering-folk-club.html
Last night at Havering Folk Club we were treated to songs and tunes from many different countries, which is not unusual by any means. In the past we've had songs from Russia, New Zealand, Argentina and Scandinavia to name but a few places I can recall. So having finished the evening the week before, I got to kick off proceedings this week and decided to play one intrumental - Andy Roberts Narrow Boats followed by a song in French by Maxime le Forestier from the 1970s which I've played once before: San Francisco The theme of foreign language and world tunes continued with Peter Waters singing some opera songs in Italian, some Spanish guitar tunes from Smolowik gigs and reels from the Orkneys and something from Sweden.

Havering Folk Club Temporary Venue
http://andyrobertsmusic.blogspot.com/2009/01/havering-folk-club-temporary-venue.html
Due to the sudden closure of the Golden Lion pub in Romford, the Havering Folk club met in a new venue last night. The little stables building at the back of the White Horse in Chadwell Heath was most acceptable as a means of keeping the continuity of this group going, though about half the size of the function room in the old place, and with nowhere for larger groups of musicians to put their instruments down or tune up. It was easy enough to make the journey, just 5 minutes walk from Chadwell Heath station and with a large car park for drivers. The hope remains that the town centre Golden Lion pub will reopen under new ownership soon and that the function room will remain available so the Havering Folk Club will be able to return to the most popular venue and able to accommodate larger audiences as are more likely to turn up regularly.Last night we were treated to a performance by Gemma Salter and friend from the cast of Come Dancing who sang a lovely song that she wrote during the early days of the show. I played an instrumental for the first time, a very old tune of mine called Narrowboats which was actually composed on the roof of a narrowboat during a Kea Youth Club expedition to the Midlands and river Severn a long time ago. Then I sang my version of Wonderwall , the traditional Mancunian folk song by Oasis, dedicated to Frankie whose birthday it was yesterday. In the second set I managed to get a request for The Cormorants Song aka London BridgeListen to Cormorants on Last.fm - free download
